Trick - or - Treat Safety Tips

Trick-Or-Treat Night in Springettsbury Township will be October 31st from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Homes that are passing out treats should turn on their porch light to indicate their participation.

To ensure that your children can enjoy this Halloween tradition safely, please remember these important reminders:

  • Make sure that you accompany your children on their trick-or-treat route
  • Teach your children to stop only at houses or apartment buildings that are well lit and never to enter a stranger's home.  You may want to consider only trick–or-treating at the homes of people you know.
  • Insist that treats be brought home for inspection before anything is eaten.
  • When in doubt, throw it out.
  • Review all appropriate trick-or-treat safety precautions, including pedestrian/traffic safety rules.
  • Pin a slip of paper with the child's name, address and phone number inside a pocket in case the youngster gets separated from the group.
  • Make sure costumes are fire retardant and try to use face make up instead of a mask.  Masks can obstruct your child’s vision.
  • If masks are worn, they should have nose and mouth openings and large eyeholes.
  • Carrying flashlights will help children see better and be seen more clearly.
  • Walk; do not run, from house to house. Do not cross yards and lawns where unseen objects or the uneven terrain can present tripping hazards.
  • Walk on sidewalks, not in the street.
  • Walk on the left side of the road, facing traffic if there are no sidewalks.

Have a happy and safe Halloween.
