From PennDOT: May 24 - Traffic Signal Upgrades on Route 30

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that a project to upgrade traffic signals and controllers on Route 30 and other routes in the City of York, North York Borough, and Manchester, West Manchester, Springettsbury, and Spring Garden townships, York County, is scheduled to begin, weather permitting, on Wednesday, May 24. Work initially will be performed during daylight hours off the roadway and traffic impacts will be minimal. Work on signals will be performed at night with short-term lane closures, as needed.

This project consists of upgrading and coordinating traffic signal controllers on a 4.1-mile section of Route 30 from the intersection with Kenneth Road to the intersection with North Hills Road.

This project also consists of signal improvements that include replacing 8-inch signal heads with 12-inch signal heads, the addition of backplates with reflectorized strips to all signal heads, and pedestrian countdown signals and ADA compliant pedestrian pushbuttons be installed at locations along Richland Avenue (Route 3054) from Route 462 (Market Street) in the City of York to Country Club Road in Spring Garden Township, Country Club Road at Grantley Road in Spring Garden Township, South George Street (Route 3036) from 2nd Street/Parkway Boulevard in North York Borough to Route 30 in Manchester Township, and North George Street (Route 181) from Route 30 to Lightner Road in Manchester Township.

Travelers are reminded to be alert for these operations, to obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through work zones for their safety as well as for the safety of the road crews.

This project is expected to be completed by January 29, 2024.

Bruce and Merrilees Electric Co. of New Castle, PA, are the contractors on this $1,219,681 project.
